U.S. National Under-17 Team Defeats Canada White, Advances to Challenge Championship |

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. –The U.S. National Under-17 Team defeated Canada White, 7-3 in their semifinal game tonight (Nov. 8) behind two goals from Jeremy Wilmer (Rockville Centre, N.Y.). “We set a goal at the beginning to be playing in the championship game and now we’re there,” head coach John Wroblewski said after the win. “Tomorrow is going to be a huge test against Russia and the boys will be giving it everything they’ve got. It’ll be an awesome game for everybody.”Chaz Lucius (Grant, Minn.) scored his eighth goal of the tournament after knocking the puck out of mid-air off of Jacob Martin’s (Eagle River, Wis.) initial shot.At 11:25 of the first period, Colby Saganiuk (Plainfield, Ill.) finished a 2-on-1 with Ryan St. Louis(Riverside, Conn.) to give the U.S. a 2-0 lead.Justin Janicke (Maple Grove, Minn.) sent the puck to Roman Schmidt (Midland, Mich.) in the slot where he ripped it behind Canada White’s Tyler Brennan at 2:20 of the second. The short-handed goal was Schmidt’s first of his career.Wilmer collected a rebound at 4:26 of the second period to give the U.S. a 4-0 lead.After a goaltender change for Canada White, Red Savage (Scottsdale, Ariz.) pushed the puck in to extend the U.S.’s lead to 5-0.Canada White scored on the power play at 6:29 of the second period after the puck deflected off a Team USA skate into the back of the net.Jack Devine (Glencoe, Ill.) sent a drop pass to Wilmer at the side of the net and Wilmer netted his second of the game, sneaking the puck in over the shoulder of Canada White’s William Rousseau.
