Plattsburgh, NY (2/14/15)- The Utica College women’s hockey team fell to nationally ranked No. 2 Plattsburgh State 5-0 in ECAC West action Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers fall to 9-9-4 (6-6-3 ECAC West), while the Cardinals improve to 18-2-2 (14-2-0). The teams wrap up the season series on Sunday at 3 p.m.
Plattsburgh jumped right out to a 1-0 lead, just 21 seconds into the game as Shannon Stewart netted her 16th goal of the year, assisted by Bridget Balisy. The Cardinals added another tally just three minutes later as Giovanna Senese put in her 10th of the year, assisted by Caitlin Gilligan and Kayla Meneghin. Plattsburgh went on to score three more goals, all on the power-play, over the next 28 minutes to seal the victory.
Senior Marissa McNamara (Camillus, NY/Lysander Lightning) made a career-high 41saves in the loss, while Plattsburgh’s Camille Leonard had ten saves to pick up her 12th win of the year.
