UTICA, NY- The Utica College women’s hockey team remained at No. 9 in this week’s D3hockey.com national poll, released Monday. Utica also held strong in the “receiving votes” category in the USCHO.com poll.
The Pioneers picked up 29 points in the D3hockey.com rankings and seven points in the USCHO.com rankings, just five behind tenth-ranked Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Utica is coming off a 5-0 victory over SUNY Cortland in the ECAC West Conference quarterfinals on Thursday. Five different players scored in the win, led by senior Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) and freshman Lauren Patterson (Burlington, Ontario/Oakville), who each had a goal and an assist. Junior Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) turned aside all 28 shots she faced for her seventh shutout of the season.
The Pioneers tied the program-record for wins in a single season as they moved their overall record to 18-7-1 on the year. Utica will travel to Plattsburgh this weekend for the ECAC West Final Four. UC takes on Elmira in the semifinals on Saturday (12 p.m.) with the winner advancing to the championship game on Sunday (3 p.m.).
