UTICA, NY- Six members of the Utica College women’s hockey team were named to the ECAC West All-Conference squads, released Thursday. Freshman Lauren Patterson (Burlington, Ontario/Oakville) took home Rookie of the Year honors. Patterson was also named to the All-Rookie team and was an All-Conference honorable mention, while Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire), Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy), Janessa Haasbeek (Grand Forks, ND/Canadian International Hockey Academy), Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School), and Kayla Dion (Colchester, VT/Boston Shamrocks ) also earned All-Conference accolades.
Patterson is the first freshman in five years and just the fourth player in program history to score more than 30 points in her rookie season. She is also just the second player in program history to be named the Conference’s Rookie of the Year, joining All-American Deana Weigand, who received the honor in 2003-04. The Burlington, Ontario native is tied for the national lead in rookie scoring with 1.28 points per game and her 32 points (11 goals, 21 assists) rank sixth in the league. She opened the season with a seven-game scoring streak in which she totaled 13 points and 26 of her points this season came in ECAC West play.
Schnepp is making her second All-Conference appearance after being named to the All-Rookie team as a freshman, this time earning First Team status. The 5-2 junior leads the team with a career-high 42 points (13 goals, 29 assists) this season. She is fifth nationally in points per game (1.68) and she is tied for the national lead in assists per game (1.16). Her 32 points in conference play were bested only by the league’s Player of the Year, Kayla Meneghin of Plattsburgh State. Schnepp has totaled 21 points in the last 11 games.
Reed was named second team All-Conference for the first time in her career. She finished the regular season ranked second on the team with 40 points, but her 20 goals lead the squad. She is the first 20-goal scorer in a single season since Megan Myers ’14 scored 21 goals in the 2010-11 season. Reed is also just the fourth player in program history to score 100 points in a career. She now has 107 points (52 goals, 55 assists) in 106 games. Reed and Schnepp became the second and third players in the last nine years to score at least 40 points in a season.
Senior captain Janessa Haasbeek (Grand Forks, ND/Canadian International Hockey Academy) is making her first All-Conference appearance as she backstopped the Utica defense that has allowed just 1.6 goals per game… Haasbeek has totaled a career-best two goals and seven assists this season, including the game-winner against SUNY Canton on Nov. 1.
Junior Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) earned a spot on the Honorable Mention squad after posting the best numbers of her career this season. Goin currently ranks eighth nationally in save percentage (.947) and her 1.41 goals against average is tenth in the nation. She stopped a career-high 55 shots, just one off the school record, in Utica’s 4-2 win over nationally ranked No. 1 Plattsburgh State on Feb. 13. Goin also set a new program record with six shutouts this season.
Dion was named to the All-Rookie team and was also an honorable mention as she ranks fourth on the team in scoring (10 points). Arguably her best outing was her two-goal performance to help Utica down nationally ranked No. 1 Plattsburgh State, snapping the Cardinals 33-game winning streak. As part of the Pioneers’ top defensive pair, Dion has racked up a +8 rating.
The nationally ranked No. 9 Utica College women’s hockey team finished third in the ECAC West Conference and will host sixth-seeded SUNY Cortland on Thursday evening. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
