CORTLAND, N.Y. – Three different players scored goals as the Utica women’s ice hockey team defeated Cortland, 3-0, in ECAC West action Saturday afternoon at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons dropped to 1-5-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the conference, while the Pioneers improved to 7-2-1 and 4-2-1.
Senior goalie Deanna Meunier (Parsippany, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) registered 33 saves for Cortland. Junior goalie Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry/Hotchkiss School) made 17 saves in earning the shutout for Utica.
Junior Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire) recorded one goal and two assists, senior Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) and freshman Lauren Patterson (Burlington, ON/Oakville) each tallied one goal and one assist and senior Janessa Haasbeek (Grand Forks, ND/Canadian International Hockey Academy) collected two assists.
Patterson scored what proved to be the game winner just 23 seconds into the game. Schnepp made it a 2-0 score at 7:41 of the second period with a short-handed goal and Reed completed the scoring with her 12th goal of the season at 17:52 of the second.
The same teams meet at Utica on Sunday at 3 p.m.
