UTICA, NY- The Utica College women’s hockey team moved up to No. 8 in the d3hockey.com national rankings and the Pioneers are also No. 10 in the latest USCHO.com poll, released Monday.
Over the weekend, the Pioneers split with nationally ranked No. 1 Plattsburgh State, marking the Cardinals’ first loss in 34 straight games. Freshman Kayla Dion (Colchester, VT/Boston Shamrocks ) scored twice and Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire) and Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) each had a goal and two assists, while junior Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) stopped 55 shots to lift UC to a 4-2 victory over the Cardinals on Saturday.
Eighth place matches the highest the Pioneers have ever been ranked in the d3hockey.com poll. The last time Utica was ranked eighth was Feb. 10, 2014. Five of the Pioneers six losses this season have come to teams currently ranked seventh or higher.
Utica wraps up the regular season this weekend as it hosts Buffalo State for an ECAC West weekend set. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
