BROOKLYN – The New York Islanders and Mitchell Vande Sompel have agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract.
Selected in the third round, 82nd overall, of the 2015 National Hockey League Draft, Vande Sompel scored 38 points (10 goals, 28 assists) in 46 games last season with the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League. The 5’10, 190-pound defenseman added four points (one goal, three assists) in five OHL Playoff games last season.
Vande Sompel was named to the 2014 OHL First All-Rookie Team during his first season in Oshawa. In 2015, Vande Sompel helped the Generals win the Memorial Cup, awarded to the champion of the Canadian Hockey League.
A native of London, Ontario, Vande Sompel has totaled 124 points (29 goals, 95 assists) in 156 career games in the OHL, which includes three points in five games during the current 2016-17 season. Prior to his junior career, Vande Sompel played with the London Jr. Knights of the AHMMPL.
