Sophomore center Mike Vecchione of Union College has been named ECAC Hockey Player of the Month.

Vecchione led the nation in scoring in October, compiling 12 points on seven goals and five assists.  He also compiled a seven-game points streak and was the back-to-back recipient of ECAC Hockey Player of the Week honors (Oct. 14, Oct. 21).

Vecchione scored goals of all variety – short-handed, on the power-play, a game-winner and even a successful penalty shot. He setup his teammates as well, registering a career-high three assists in a 5-2 win over Maine (Oct. 18).  In addition, Vecchione was a force in the faceoff circle, winning 62 percent of his draws.

The Saugus, Massachusetts native centers a line with Daniel Ciampini and Spencer Foo.  The trio occupies the top three spots respectively in team scoring.

Monthly awards are nothing new for Vecchione, who was named Rookie of the Month (March-April combined) by ECAC Hockey and tabbed National Division I Rookie of the Month (March-April) by the Hockey Commissioner’s Association last spring.
