After watching a record eight of his U.S. National Development Team Program selected in the first round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver, Laurel Hollow’s Marshall Warren had to wait until pick number 166 for his named to be called in the sixth round by the Minnesota Wild.

“It means the world to my family and I and I can’t thank them enough,” Warren said in the draft interview area. “It is so special.”

The 5’8”, 175 lb. defenseman has the offensive instincts teams are looking for in the “new” NHL that is moving toward speed and puck movement.

Warren, committed to Boston College this fall, had 34 points in 58 games this past season with the U-18 team after 30 points in 60 games the year prior with U-17. He spent much of his early hockey development playing in northern New Jersey.

“Because of (where) I got picked, I can prove (to) everyone what I can do and I have a chip on my shoulder and I can’t wait to prove everyone. More because I got picked a little later than I thought, and I’m excited to prove to everyone what I can do.”

“I’ll get to BC and have a great year with a bunch of my best friends. It should be good; we have a good incoming class, so it should be fun. I was actually sitting with the BC coaches and they’re super-excited for us, so it should be good.”
