Webster-Thomas exploded for five unanswered second period goals starting 47 seconds after Irondequoit pulled to within one goal of the lead on their way to a 10-2 romp in the first Class B semi-final played at RIT’s Gene Polisseni Center.
Sophomores Zack Wolfe and Cade Spencer each netted hat tricks for the Titans and Wolfe added four assists for a seven-point effort.
“Coaches helped rally the team…and my line started to click and so did all the other lines,” Spencer said. “I think all the boys were just ready to go and we were pumped up for this game.”
Wolfe teamed up with Cullen Hennessey on the first two Titans goals at 4:24 of the first period and 4:13 of the second respectively before the Eagles closed the gap with a power play marker.
Then the onslaught came as the Thomas netted five goals in a row over an eight minute period starting with Teagan Spang’s blast from the left point that had eyes at 7:30. Spencer then netted four in a row over the next 7:29 with Wolfe assisting on three of them. The last came after he blocked a shot and raced the length of the ice.
Irondequoit did scored a shorthanded goal late in the second, but the Titans found the net three more times in the third with Spang, defenseman Will Fisher and Wolfe completing his hat trick.
Thomas outshot the Eagles 49-15 in the contest and will play the winner of Spencerport-Canandaigua in the Class B championship game Monday at 6pm back at RIT.
