DANBURY, CT— Shenae Lundberg made 21 saves in her first start for the Whale today at Danbury Arena, leading the team to a 3-2 overtime win over the Beauts. Alyssa Wohlfeiler scored late in the first period on the power play to put the Whale up 1-0 going into the first intermission. Shelby Bram scored 11 seconds into the second period to even things up.
Not long after, Hannah McGowan put the Beauts up 2-1 with a shorthanded goal, but the Whale evened things back up with under two minutes left in the second. Kate Buesser took a nice feed from Kelli Stack in the low slot and fired it past Brianne McLaughlin. The Whale penalty box had a revolving door in the first half of the third period, but the Whale killed off all the penalties. Both goaltenders stood strong in net for their teams throughout the period making some big saves, and 60 minutes would not be enough to settle this battle.
The Whale killed off a Danielle Ward penalty in overtime and soon after went on the attack, and some nice tic-tac-toe passing between Kelli Stack and Kelly Babstock led to a wide open one-timer from Molly Engstrom, who fired home the game winner.
