STAMFORD, CT— The Connecticut Whale scored two goals in the second period to lift them to victory in the final regular season game against the New York Riveters 4-2. Shiann Darkangelo put the Whale up 2-1, and not long after, Kelly Babstock capitalized on the power play to give the Whale a 3-1 lead.
Danielle Ward kicked off the scoring for the Whale, knocking one past former teammate Chelsea Laden, who started for the Riveters. Bray Ketchum knotted the game at 1 on a 5-on-3 power play with 5 seconds to go in the first period, but the Riveters got one back to keep it a one goal game heading into the third period. Kiira Dosdall got that second goal for the Riveters on the power play, sending the puck past former teammate Shenae Lundberg for her first of the season. Micaela Long added an empty net goal with under a minute to go in the third to seal the deal for the Whale.
Connecticut finishes the season with 13 wins and five losses, while the Riveters finish with four wins, 12 losses, and two overtime losses. The Riveters go to Boston to take on the Pride next week, and the Whale host the Beauts in the first round of the Isobel Cup Playoffs.
