POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Potsdam women’s hockey player Samantha White (Oceanside, Calif./Anaheim Lady Ducks) has earned the brand-new Northeast Women’s Hockey League’s (NEWHL) first ever Rookie of the Week award.
Making her collegiate debut on Friday night, the freshman goaltender stopped all 16 shots she faced in a 3-0 shutout at Saint Michael’s College. White matched teammate Alexa Pfeiffer’s feat from a year ago.
The Bears open up NEWHL play this weekend at Buffalo State. Potsdam squares off with the Bengals at 7 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday. The Bears will be looking for a measure of revenge against Buffalo State, the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last season.
