William Smith Blanks Lebanon Valley

HERSHEY, Pa.-The William Smith College ice hockey team scored two goals in each period as they rolled to a 6-0 victory over Lebanon Valley at The GIANT Center this afternoon. With the win the Herons are 6-0-0 overall and 4-0-0 in the UCHC.

Six different players scored goals for William Smith. Senior Lindsay Brown led the way with three points on a goal and two assists. Sophomore Olivia Williams stopped all 14 shots she faced as she notched her first shutout of the season. Jillian Moffat made 37 saves in goal for Lebanon Valley (2-6-0, 1-5-0).

Sophomore Julia Mings opened the scoring at the 6:29 mark of the first period. Her third goal of the season was unassisted. Just over three minutes later, Sophomore Alison Weiss gave the Herons a 2-0 lead. Her second goal of the season was assisted by sophomore Morgan McMinn and Brown. The assist was McMinn’s first career point.

Sophomore Emily Martino gave the Herons a 3-0 lead at the 8:44 mark of the second period. She collected a pass from Kate Klimaszewski and one-timed it past Moffat. Klimaszewski added a goal of her own at 17:12. Seniors Jordan Roetzer and Laura Rollins were credited with assists on the power-play goal.

Just under three minutes into the third period, McMinn scored her first collegiate goal. She banged home a rebound from the low slot. Brown was credited with an assist after taking the initial shot. Brown added a short-handed goal at 12:18 of the third period to round out the scoring. She won a faceoff in her own zone, raced down the ice and wristed a shot past Moffatt.

The Herons finished the game with a 43-14 edge in shots on goal. William Smith was 1-for-7 on the power-play while Lebanon Valley was 0-for-9 with the extra attacker.

This is the second consecutive season the Herons have been undefeated through their first six games. William Smith started the 2017-18 season with a 5-0-1 record.

William Smith will be back in action Nov. 30-Dec. 1 when it welcomes Neumann to The Cooler for a pair of games. Faceoff on Nov. 30 is set for 7 p.m.
