William Smith Falls to Chatham

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The William Smith College ice hockey team fell 2-0 to Chatham University in an ECAC West match this evening.

The start of game was delayed 45 minutes due to a power outage at the arena.

The Herons (2-7-1, 1-5-1) and the Cougars played 56 minutes of scoreless hockey before Katrina Hawkins netted the game’s first goal late in third period. At the 16:30 mark of the third period, Hawkins collected a pass in front of the goal and buried the scoring opportunity. McKenzie Haskins and Hayley Potterfield were credited with the assists. Chatham (3-5-0, 1-4-0) added an insurance goal with just under 50 seconds remaining in the game. Jenny Jones and Marissa Janiga connected to put Chatham up 2-0.

Megan Messuri started in goal for William Smith and made 43 saves. Megan Buchanan played all 60 minutes in goal for the Cougars. Buchanan stopped all 22 shots she faced keeping the Herons off of the scoreboard.

The Herons were outshot 45-22.  Krista Federow<http://hwsathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5542> recorded a team-high four shots for William Smith.  Neither team was able to convert on the power play. William Smith went 0-2 with the extra attacker while the Cougars were 0-4.
