GENEVA, N.Y.— Buffalo State scored in the opening minutes of the game, but William Smith tallied four unanswered goals to seal a 4-1 conference win over the Bengals on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Brooke Krantz (Penticton, BC/Penticton) quickly got Buffalo State on the scoreboard with a goal just 2:44 into the game. Christine Harris (Mountain Top, PA/Wyoming Seminary) and Bri Carroll (Peoria, AZ/Virtual Academy) were credited with assists.
With less than five minutes to play in the first period William Smith tied the game, 1-1.
A scoreless second period sent the Bengals and Herons into the final period still tied, but William Smith answered with three goals in the final six minutes of the game to seal the win.
Both teams finished the game with 38 shots on goal apiece and neither scored on the limited power play opportunities.
Justine Silva (Baldwin Park, CA/Arroyo) recorded the loss in net and finished with 34 saves.

FOR THE FOES
Four separate Herons scored goals for William Smith, including Krista Federow, Rebecca Begley, Tess Madaresz and Laura Rollins.
Laurel Brown earned the win, finishing with 37 saves.

Buffalo State will return to action at home at 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday for a conference doubleheader against Oswego.
