William Smith senior Amanda Aalto was named the New England Hockey Conference’s Goalie of the Week by the conference office. It is the third time this season that Aalto has won the award.
Aalto was 2-0-0 in goal this weekend for the Herons. She stopped 47 of the 49 shots she faced, recording a 1.00 goals against average and a .959 save percentage. On Friday, Aalto made 17 saves in a 2-0 victory over New England College. It was her fourth shutout of the season. The next day she made 30 saves in a 3-2 upset victory over No. 8 Norwich. Against the Cadets, Aalto stopped nine shots in the first period, 11 in the second and 10 in the third.
Aalto is 6-6-1 this season with a 2.00 goals against average and a .927 save percentage. Her four shutouts this season are second on William Smith’s single-season list, two behind Olivia Williams ’20, who had six in 2018-19.
William Smith wrapped up the regular season with a 9-14-1 overall record and a 7-9-1 mark in conference play. Winners of three straight, the Herons moved up to sixth in the conference standings with 24 points. William Smith will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 19, when it travels to Gorham, Maine, to take on the University of Southern Maine in the quarterfinals of the NEHC Tournament. Faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the USM Ice Arena
