William Smith College first-year Stephanie Hampton was named the ECAC Women’s West Rookie of the Week by the conference office late yesterday. Hampton notched a goal and an assist in a 1-1-0 week for the Herons.
Hampton recorded a team-high two points in this weekend’s series with Chatham. On Saturday, she scored her first collegiate goal. At 17:12 of the first period, with William Smith on a power play, she backhanded a shot into the net past the Cougars’ goalie. Hampton’s goal would stand as the game-winner as the Herons blanked Chatham 3-0. She finished Saturday’s contest with a team-high six shots on goal. In Sunday’s loss, Hampton was credited with an assist on Laura Rollins<http://www.hwsathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8910>’ first collegiate goal at 5:53 of the first period. Hampton dug a puck out of the corner and sent a pass to Krista Federow<http://www.hwsathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=8894>. Federow found Rollins who was alone in front of the goal. Rollins’ goal was also a power-play goal.
Hampton is tied for third on the team with four points (1g, 3a). Through 10 games, she is fifth in the ECAC West in rookie scoring.
The Herons (3-5-2, 1-5-2) have concluded the 2015 portion of their schedule and will be back in action on Jan. 5 when they travel to Morrisville for a non-conference game. Faceoff against the Mustangs is scheduled for 7 p.m.
