Legendary Coach Bob Rosen coached his Williamsville North Spartans to his 500th win as a coach in the WNY Section VI Hockey Federation Large School Championship on Sunday at KeyBank Center.

Williamsville faced off against an Orchard Park team that was looking to secure their second consecutive championship. But Williamsville’s plan was to secure the win for their coach and they opened scoring just 41 seconds into the game with Mason Meggo got one past OP Goalie Ryan Albert. Then at 7:51 Jacob. O’Kulewig scores, assisted by Matthew Scott. The third goal of the period was scored by Mac Ward, assisted by Jacob Penetrante and Meggo and the first ends 3-0 in favor of the Spartans.

It was a scoreless second period with Williamsville outshooting Orchard Park 14-11.

Orchard Park came out flying and determined scoring on the powerplay at 5:01 by Owen Hughes, assisted by Aiden Jones and Bryson Miller. But that was to be the one and only as Williamsville gained more momentum and dropped in two more. The first an unassisted by Jacob Okulewicz and then Matt Scott dropped one in, assisted by AJ Ferenczy and Bryan Adudle at 11:35 ending the game 5-1 in favor of the Spartans.

Williamsville goalie Henry Braun stopped 22 of 23 shots and Orchard Park’s Albert faced 45 shots.

Coach Rosen was named MVP of the game to a standing ovation.
