BY RANDY SCHULTZ — Williamsville, NY – Williamsville High School defeated Ithaca High School, 4-2, in girls high school ice hockey action Wednesday afternoon. The late afternoon non-league WNYGVIH Preseason contest was played at the Northtown Center at Amherst.
Williamsville was led by a natural hat trick performance by junior Emma Roland while Ithaca’s Madison Sorenberger, a freshman, tallied both goals for the losers.
All of Roland’s goals came in the first period. Her first goal came at the 3:43 mark and less than five minutes later she put Williamsville up 2-0.
Sorenberger cut the Williamsville lead in half at the 12:47 mark before Roland completed her natural hat trick at the 14:30 mark to make the score 3-1 after one.
Sorenberger cut the Williamsville lead to one, 3-2, with the second periods only goal at 2:15. Jenna Cavalieri put the victors up by two at 5:48 of the third period, making the final score, 4-2.
Williamsville outshot Ithaca for the game, 38-16. Sydney Olschewski and Elizabeth Timby split the goaltending duties for Williamsville while Catie Eisenhut and Hannah Brennan did the same for Ithaca.
