AMHERST, NY — Two third period goals by Vanessa Willick help lift the Williamsville varsity girls hockey team past HEWS (Hamburg, Eden, West Seneca), 4-1 at the Northtown Center Tuesday afternoon.
HEWS opened the scoring in the game when Jackie Supples (11th grader from West Seneca HS) at 12:26 of the first period to give her team a 1-0 lead.
But Williamsville answered right back at the 13:06 mark when Aizah-Rose Thompson (10th grader from Williamsville-North) scored to tie the contest, 1-1.
Following a scoreless second period, Willick (11th grader from Williamsville East) scored the first of her two goals for the period at 5:51 of the third to give Williamsville a 2-1 lead. Willick came right back at 9:11 to put Williamsville up, 3-1.
A little over a minute later Ellie Schau (Sr. from Williamsville East) scored Williamsville’s fourth, and final goal of the game to wrap it up for the winners, 4-1.
Williamsville goaltender Elizabeth Timby stopped 11 of the 12 shots she faced. Timby is a senior from Williamsville North High School.
At the other end of the ice HEWS netminder Natalie Davidson faced 34 shots. Davidson is a senior from Hamburg High School.
It was the opening game of their season for Williamsville while HEWS now stands at 0-2-0.
