The final statistics are in for the WNY Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Federation.

Leading in points, and taking the League Championship, was Monsignor Martin with an undefeated record giving them 36 points.

Following is Kenmore with 12 wins, 5 losses and one tie for 25 points and taking the Section VI championship.

Williamsville had 11 wins, 4 losses and one tie, including two overtime losses for 25 points. Following were Orchard Park/Fronter with 9 wins/7 losses/2 ties and 20 points; Amherst/Sweet Home, 6 wins/10 losses/2 overtime losses and 14 points; West Seneca, 5 wins/13 losses for 10 points. In last place Lancaster with 18 losses and no points.

Leading the scoring in the top five were Erin Gehen of West Seneca with 38 goals and 20 assists for 58 points. She was followed by Julia Duquette, Monsignor Martin, 17 goals/24 assists for 41 points; Missy Mallon, Amherst/Sweet Home, 16 goals, 22 assists for 38 points; Rachel Lenard, Monsignor Martin, 14 goals, 19 assists at 33 points and Maddy Grisko, Amherst/Sweet Home, 19 goals, 12 assists for 31 points.

Keeping the pucks out of the net were Monsignor Martin’s Courtney Wesolowski with a .981 save % and 0.27 GAA; Sophie Carroll, Monsignor Martin, .889 save % and 1.00 GAA; Lauren Pray, Kenmore, .953 save %, 1.17 GAA; Theresa Moesky, Williamsville, .919 save %, 1.59 GAA and Maddy Utz, Monsignor Martin, .880 save%, 1.70 GAA.

This is the third season for the WNYGVIH Federation with teams from Monsignor Martin, which includes several local catholic high schools, Williamsville and West Seneca  featuring girls from all their district schools, Orchard Park/Frontier and Amherst/Sweet Home combining girls from their schools, Lancaster and Kenmore.

The League is looking to add other schools from the WNY area.

Janet has been covering women's hockey for over 35 years. Along with a 38 year career in Public Relations and over 40 years photographing sports, she found a passion in women's hockey. Her initial story was on the founding of the Niagara University D1 program, she expanded to collegiate and youth and was active in the founding and promoting of the WNY Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Federation. When Professional Women's Hockey hit the ice she was there, one of the first to release the story in WNY. Along with her husband, Randy, people comment that if there's hockey, the Schultz's are there!
