It’s been Senior Week for two teams, a makeup game for Williamsville against Kenmore/Grand Island and the some movement in the statistics.

Kenmore/Grand Island has moved into first place after playing 14 games and posting a 10-3-1 record and 30.5 points. Frontier/Lakeshore/Orchard Park has moved into second, followed by Monsignor Martin and Niagara County. Williamsville now sits in fifth place, tied in points at 24 with Niagara County. CASH, LID, HEWS and St. Marys of Lancaster complete the standings as of January 14.

The scoring leaders have shifted slightly with Allison Greene, CASH, now posting 20 points on 16 goals and 4 assists. She is tied in points with Isabella Jayme who has 12 goals and 8 assists for Kenmore. They can be displayed by Kayla Persinger, NiCo and Aizah-Roze Thompson who have 19 points each.

In Goal MacKenzie Walkowiak (LID) has been between the pipes for 544.98 minutes this season and has a 326 save over 365 shots. KGI’s Carolyn Bourgeault has been in for 542.42 minutes and has made 200 saves on 217 shots. They are followed in minutes by Leia Schneid (HEWS) and Kerrigan McCarthy (FLOP. 

Ella Celej of CASH made a 50 minute appearance in goal and made 31 saves on 32 shots.

The season has been marked by several postponements due to weather and Covid. One rescheduled game made the play list this week when Williamsville faced off against KGI on Thursday night.  Other games rescheduled in the coming weeks include a January 20 scrimmage between KGI and LID, which will be LID’s Senior Night; St. Mary’s hosting CASH on January 18 at Northtown Arena and then hosting FLOP on January 19 at Cheektowaga. Monsignor Martin will play FLOP at Cornerstone in Lockport on January 25 at 8 p.m. and St. Mary’s will host Monsignor Martin at Cheektowaga on January 31.

First game this week was HEWS at NiCo on NiCO’s Senior Night. NiCo got on the boards first with a powerplay goal by Skylar Berube in the first period. NiCo’s Persinger added one more before HEWS Kayla O’Donnell scored and ended the first period 2-1 NiCo. Four more goals in the second and one in the third, with HEWS also adding one in the third and the game ends 7-2 Niagara County.

O’Donnell had both goals for HEWS, and both unassisted. Kennedy Ruest made 18/20 and HEWS Leia Schneid stopped 27 of 34.

Over at Northtowns it was a 3-1 victory for KGI over CASH. With Isabelle Bourgeault, Isabella Jayme and Teagan Willats scoring. In net Carolyn Bourgeault made 13 of 14 shots. Allison Greene had the lone goal for CASH, assisted by Sydney Spear. In goal Kylie Paige stopped 30 of 33 SOG.

Monsignor Martin at FLOP was postponed.

LID traveled to St. Mary’s and made it a 4-0 shutout. Scoring coming from Emma Plotnicki, Sydney Radecki (2 goals) and  Haylie Petyk. Walkowiak was in goal and stopped all 16 shots. In goal for St. Mary’s was Avery Hall, stopping 41 of 45 SOG.

FLOP took on CASH and kept it a close game with a 3-2 victory for FLOP. Scoring were Mya Dalton with two goals and the game winner went to Maura Langdon. For CASH it was Sydney Spear and Isabella Zivis. Minding the net for FLOP was McCarthy with 17 saves on 19 shots and for CASH Melissa MacLeod with 33 saves on 36 sog.

Williamsville scored quickly in the first and second periods in a 5-2 win over KGI on Tuesday evening. KGI tried to come back from a 4-0 second period by scoring two goals quickly in the third, but Williamsville secured the win with one more goal in the third. KGI had a no goal called mid-way through the third and the game ended 5-2 in favor of Williamsville.

Scoring for Williamsville were Martin, Willick with two and Thompson with two. Katherine Kelley stopped 20 of 22 sog from KGI and for KGI Jayme had a power play goal and Cassillo had the second; both unassisted. Carolyn Bourgeault stopped 18 of 23 SOG.

Senior Taylor Joyce dropped the puck into the net just nine seconds into the game, celebrating FLOP’s Senior Night right. Then is was Dalton, Torgerson, Griffin and Draskiewicz for a 5-1 win over LID. LID’s single goal came in the second period by Petyk. McCarthy made 16 saves on 17 shots and LID’s Walkowiak topped 31 of 36.

Niagara County continued winning this week with a 3-2 victory over CASH. It was Maddy Mallone with the game winning goal for the win. Mulready faced 23 shots, stopping 21 and Paige stopped 33 of 36 for CASH. Allison Greene had CASH’s only two goals, one unassisted. For Niagara County Berube had her stock on the puck for two assists.

Williamsville and KGI had to face each other for the second time in the week to make up for a previously postponed game. This time they were on Williamsville’s home ice and KGI took the win 3-2 in overtime. Cassillo had a short-handed goal, unassisted early on to set the pace Jayme had the winning goal and the other KGI goal came from Pinzel. Vanessa Willick had both goals for Williamsville, one a short-handed. Katherine Kelley made 13 saves on 16 SOG.

Monday, January 17: St. Mary’s at Niagara County at Riverworks, 5:30 p.m.

Tuesday, January 18: LID at Williamsville, 4 p.m.; CASH at St. Mary’s, 4 p.m.; Niagara County at KGI, 7:50 p.m.

No games currently scheduled for Wednesday.

Thursday, January 20: HEWS at CASH, 4:30 p.m. for CASH’s Senior night;  Niagara County at Monsignor Martin, 4:30 p.m.; Williamsville at FLOP, 4:30 p.m. and a scrimmage with KGI at LID, 4:15 p.m. at Holiday for LID’s Senior Night.
