Orchard Park takes the Large School 2020 WNYHSCHL Championship after defeating Canisius 3-2.
No scoring in the first period and the second opened with several penalities. Then Orchard Park’s Owen Hughes scored his first of two goals at 7:57 of the second, assisted by Aiden Jones and Ryan Licursi. With 1:12 left Dante Santora fired but Ryan Albert made the save; then Andrew Bray caught the rebound and put the puck past Albert tieing the game at 1-1.
Orchard Park opened the third at 14:52 with a goal by Mike Robertson, assisted by Bret Rokitka and Hughes. The winning goal came at 9:48 with Hughes scoring, assisted by Ryan Licursi and Bryson Miller. Canisius closed in when CJ Lenehan scored at 4:37, assisted by Gianna Vona and Aiden Hourihan.
Orchard Park takes the title for the second time with a 3-2 win over Canisius. They beat Canisius last season in the finals.
