HAMILTON – Goaltender Alex Lyon made 36 saves to record his fourth shutout of the season and lead No. 10 Yale to a 3-0 victory at Colgate in ECAC Hockey action Friday at Starr Rink.
The reigning ECAC Goaltender of the Year, Lyon made 27 of his 36 saves over the final two periods to extend the Bulldogs winning streak to four games.
It was a goaltending duo during the first half of the game as Lyon and Colgate netminder Charlie Finn went save-for-save until Yale scored twice during a 1:42 span late in the second to take control of the contest.
Cody Learned broke the deadlock with 4:39 remaining in the middle frame, burying a wrist shot from the slot for his fifth goal of the season.
Joe Snively doubled the Bulldog margin less than two minutes later when he fired home a loose puck from the right faceoff circle to make it a 2-0 game.
JM Piotrowski closed out the scoring at the 6:45 mark of the third, deflecting a pass from Adam Larkin between the legs of Finn for his second goal of the season.
Finn finished with 25 saves for Colgate, highlighted by a 13-save effort during the third period.
